Graduated Driver Licensing and You

THEN

An enormous first step, indeed. Graduated Driver Licensing relies on the guidance and supervision of the PARENT TO TYPICALLY COMPLETE 50 HOURS OF BEHIND THE WHEELTRAINING WITH THEIR TEEN . Today, most every state requires Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) to improve the safety and skill of tomorrow’s drivers.

However, risk of accident is greatest when a teen is learning to drive. Coupled with a parent having no driver training background, you have a risky situation to say the least! In order for parents to SAFELY conduct on-road GDL training, they must have a means for controlling the car. There, too, is a need to provide parents with guidelines for proper instruction of their teen when behind the wheel.

…and NOW

50 HOURS OF BEHIND-THE-WHEEL TRAINING.Today's
GDL offers a safer, more rigorous and dynamic training process to complement the valuable experience teens gain through typically 50 hours of behind-the-wheel training by the parent.

PLUS SAFETY EQUIPMENT. For the first time, parents can use a professional driving instructor brake to protect against loss of life, limb, and property. A safe learning environment not only reduces the risk and anxiety associated with training a teen, it contributes to a calm, focused atmosphere for more effective learning and “real world” skill development.

PLUS TRAINING GUIDELINES. Parents also need guidance on how to teach good driving habits and not pass on bad ones. An easy to understand driver education handbook for parents is now available with teaching tips and objectives that help parents parallel the curriculums used by professional driving instructors.
